About Nathan Woods, Owner & Dog Trainer
Nathan was only 10 years old when he started formal dog training at the Richmond Dog Training Center in Richmond, VA. Ben Johns mentored him and made him a dog training instructor by age 11. Click here to see first news article. It was here that Nathan discovered his true passion and purpose in life, and he has been training dogs ever since. While at the training center in Richmond, he trained over 3,000 owners how to work with their dogs and served as the lead instructor for 9 years! There he trained his first dog, a Miniature Poodle, to achieve the Utility Dog obedience title which took 6 years of practice.
Nathan has also had the opportunity to apprentice under several Professional Dog Handlers, where he learned the art of showing dogs. He was given his first Boxer from Ben Johns' Champion Boxer when he was 13. He then bred her to a top Champion producer at the time, CH Ewo's Tie Breaker which was the son of CH Heldenbrand's Jet Breaker (#1 US Boxer at the time) and got his first AKC Champion when he was only 16 years old. He has led numerous breeds their Championships as well as the highest obedience level, known as "Utility." His highest level obedience titles to date includes Utility Dog Excellent (UDX), Obedience Master (OM1), and Ralley Advanced Excellent (RAE). Here is a video of Nathan competing in an Obedience trial and qualifying for a UDX leg.
Nathan moved to Santa Barbara in 1999, started Santa Barbara Pet Services in 2001, and has been training dogs full time ever since. In 2006, Nathan earned a Bachelors of Science in Business from California State University Channel Islands.
Nathan is also a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, specializing in challenging problems and breeds.
